Addictive Diseases

Today, alcohol and drug dependencies are recognized as life-threatening diseases. At Focus By-The-Sea we regard them as treatable medical illnesses.

Focus on Recovery is our unique program that helps chemically dependent adults approach their illness in a holistic, comprehensive manner. The goal of this approach is twofold: first, to provide a solid foundation for recovery, and second, to discover any underlying psychological disorders that may be at the core of the patient's addiction.

Through the use of therapy and a 12-step approach, our physicians and counselors help patients confront their negative life experiences and the depression, anxiety, trauma, anger and grief that may contribute to their chemical dependency issues.

As inpatient treatment stays became shorter, we have developed a dual diagnosis program that takes all the components of the traditional 28-day inpatient program and condenses them into 14 days. Dual diagnosis occurs when a patient is found to have a chemical dependency in addition to a psychological disorder.

Patients are encouraged to learn self-intervention techniques and identify behaviors, events and emotional states that cause relapses. Emphasis is placed on learning relapse prevention skills. Discharge planning is seen as essential to getting patients on the road to recovery.

Problems we address:
